    Social Impact Assessment of two proposed landfill sites near Wanganui East

    To investigate whether there are any differences between the two proposed sites on the basis of likely social impacts and if any particular social impacts cannot be adequately remedied or mitigated, the assessment has to identify the grounds on which the existing proposals should be modified.

    Survey and profile of recreational use of the Estuary and nearby beaches, profiles of residents and local business activity, consultation with interested and affected parties.

    Contribution to Issues and Options report, Technical report on social assessment.

    Waimakariri District Wastewater Ocean Outfall SIA

    Objectives:
    (i) Assist with preparing a consultation plan for communities and stakeholders
    (ii) Consider the social effects of two outfall locations
    (iii) Prepare a social impact assessment for the preferred outfall location.
    Major Activities:
    Key informant interviews, community and interest group meetings, community open days, profile of beach communities and recreational use of the beach and river mouth areas, analysis of social effects and mitigation possibilities.
    Outputs:
    Social impact assessment report, contribution to AEE report, evidence to commissioner hearings (resource consent granted and outfall constructed).
